Some people can talk the talk, but New York Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch is proving he can walk the walk.
In the buildup to their road trip to Columbus, Marsch insisted that his team would stick by their high-energy, high-press tactics despite playing a top team away from home. After Saturday’s 2-1 triumph away to Columbus Crew SC, it’s clear that his preaching did not fall on deaf ears.

Coming into their first Cascadia clash of the 2015 season, Portland Timbers head coach Caleb Porter said his side would have to be well aware of the Vancouver Whitecaps’ newfound propensity to employ a defensive, counter-attacking style.
The Timbers got that – maybe to a point that surprised even them.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - From the opening seconds of their 2-1 defeat to the New York Red Bulls, Columbus Crew SC didn't look like themselves.
Accustomed to dominance in possession and a plethora of chances, Columbus was frustrated by New York, and multiple mental lapses punctuated an overall disjointed performance for Crew SC. What was missing for head coach Gregg Berhalter? He didn't even know where to begin.

WASHINGTON – Chris Pontius and Nick DeLeon started in the late show at blustery RFK Stadium on Saturday night, combining on an injury-time strike to stun the defending MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy 1-0.
Stretched paper-thin by injuries, United faced a tall order against a side they haven’t beaten in over six years. But LA were missing some pieces of their own: Robbie Keane missed the match to take part in Ireland’s European Cup qualifier against Poland, while Gyasi Zardes remains with the US national team ahead of their friendly with Switzerland.

It’s a soccer cliché that a short-handed coach will say he would have accepted a point in advance on the road, but that platitude pales into insignificance when the team has just gone 2-0 down after only 28 minutes. Adrian Heath was ready to hope for just 2-0 from their visit to Montreal.

The San Jose Earthquakes might have gone down by multiple goals for the first time all season on Saturday, but new coach Dominic Kinnear wouldn’t let them be knocked out by the New England Revolution.
Even though Kinnear’s halftime roll of the dice -- bringing on Adam Jahn and Shea Salinas for JJ Koval and Sanna Nyassi -- failed to stave off a 2-1 defeat, it gave the Quakes a renewed sense of purpose after falling behind by a pair of Kelyn Rowe goals inside 37 minutes.

But after three games, that plan might have to change for Sunday’s Eastern Conference tilt against the winless Chicago Fire (5 pm ET; ESPN2, ESPN Deportes).

MONTREAL – Left back has been a problem position for the Montreal Impact since 2007.
Donny Toia has heard. Some teammates and coaches have told him about the struggles the Impact have endured at that position since Mauricio Vincello left the then-second-division outfit, more than seven years ago.
Some solutions worked out, for a time. But many have come and gone in the blink of an eye. In Montreal’s first three MLS seasons alone, 11 different players got a start at left back.
