The Moon was new on July 16. Its familiar nearside facing the surface of planet Earth was in shadow. But on that date a million miles away, the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) spacecraft's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) captured this view of an apparently Full Moon crossing in front of a Full Earth. In fact, seen from the spacecraft's position beyond the Moon's orbit and between Earth and Sun, the fully illuminated lunar hemisphere is the less familiar farside. Only known since the dawn of the space age, the farside is mostly devoid of dark lunar maria that sprawl across the Moon's perpetual Earth-facing hemisphere. Only the small dark spot of the farside's Mare Moscoviense (Sea of Moscow) is clear, at the upper left. Planet Earth's north pole is near 11 o'clock, with the North America visited by Hurricane Dolores near center. Slight color shifts are visible around the lunar edge, an artifact of the Moon's motion through the field caused by combining the camera's separate exposures taken in quick succession through different color filters. ISS Daily Summary Report – 08/6/15

Human Research Program (HRP) Operations: Kelly and Kornienko continued their week of sleep logging.  Within fifteen minutes of wakeup, the crew answered questions from the SleepLog application on the Station Support Computer (SSC). Kornienko completed his Flight Day 132 Fine Motor Skills.  Kelly completed his first of three Journals sessions. Yui, with Kelly as Crew Medical Officer (CMO), performed his FD14 Sprint Ultrasound. The Sleep ISS-12 experiment monitors ambient light exposure and crew member activity, and    collects subjective evaluations of sleep and alertness, to examine the effects of space flight and ambient light exposure on sleep during a year-long mission on the ISS. In the Fine Motor Skills experiment crew members perform a series of interactive tasks on a touchscreen tablet. The investigation is the first fine motor skills study to measure long-term microgravity exposure, different phases of microgravity adaptation, and sensorimotor recovery after returning to Earth gravity. Yui configured video, Ultrasound 2 machine, and donned the calf and thigh reference guides.  He then performed thigh and calf scans with guidance from the Sprint ground team.  Ultrasound scans are used to evaluate spaceflight-induced changes in the muscle volume. The Sprint investigation evaluates the use of high intensity, low volume exercise training to minimize loss of muscle, bone, and cardiovascular function in ISS crewmembers during long-duration missions.   Plant Circumnutation and Its dependence on the Gravity Response (Plant Rotation): Yui removed Plant Rotation Sample 3 from the Cell Biology Experiment Facility (CBEF) Incubator Unit 1-Gravity (1G) centrifuge. During this experiment run, rice plants underwent microgravity rotation first, then a 1G rotation.  Many species of climbing plants grow upward in a spiraling shape, a process known as circumnutation. Plant organs, such as stems, leaves, and roots also grow in a spiraling, helical shape. This spiraling process can take many forms, including very tight loops and broad curves. The Plant Rotation experiment verifies the hypothesis that this type of plant growth requires gravity.   Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) 3011 Fan Pump Separator (FPS) Remove & Replace (R&R)Tool Stow: Lindgren stowed tools and hardware that were used during last week’s EMU 3011 FPS R&R. Fuzzy Logic Based Direct Torque Control Of Induction Motor With Space Vector Modulation. (arXiv:1508.01345v1 [cs.SY])

The induction motors have wide range of applications for due to its well-known advantages like brushless structures, low costs and robust performances. Over the past years, many kind of control methods are proposed for the induction motors and direct torque control has gained huge importance inside of them due to fast dynamic torque responses and simple control structures. However, the direct torque control method has still some handicaps against the other control methods and most of the important of these handicaps is high torque ripple. This paper suggests a new approach, Fuzzy logic based space vector modulation, on the direct torque controlled induction motors and aim of the approach is to overcome high torque ripple disadvantages of conventional direct torque control. In order to test and compare the proposed direct torque control method with conventional direct torque control method simulations, in Matlab/Simulink,have been carried out in different working conditions. The simulation results showed that a significant improvement in the dynamic torque and speed responses when compared to the conventional direct torque control method.

Using Linguistic Analysis to Translate Arabic Natural Language Queries to SPARQL. (arXiv:1508.01447v1 [cs.CL])

The logic-based machine-understandable framework of the Semantic Web often challenges naive users when they try to query ontology-based knowledge bases. Existing research efforts have approached this problem by introducing Natural Language (NL) interfaces to ontologies. These NL interfaces have the ability to construct SPARQL queries based on NL user queries. However, most efforts were restricted to queries expressed in English, and they often benefited from the advancement of English NLP tools. However, little research has been done to support querying the Arabic content on the Semantic Web by using NL queries. This paper presents a domain-independent approach to translate Arabic NL queries to SPARQL by leveraging linguistic analysis. Based on a special consideration on Noun Phrases (NPs), our approach uses a language parser to extract NPs and the relations from Arabic parse trees and match them to the underlying ontology. It then utilizes knowledge in the ontology to group NPs into triple-based representations. A SPARQL query is finally generated by extracting targets and modifiers, and interpreting them into SPARQL. The interpretation of advanced semantic features including negation, conjunctive and disjunctive modifiers is also supported. The approach was evaluated by using two datasets consisting of OWL test data and queries, and the obtained results have confirmed its feasibility to translate Arabic NL queries to SPARQL.

Predicting Occupancy Trends in Barcelona's Bicycle Service Stations Using Open Data. (arXiv:1505.03662v3 [cs.AI] UPDATED)

In 2008, the CEO of the company that manages and maintains the public bicycle service in Barcelona recognized that one may not expect to always find a place to leave the rented bike nearby their destination, similarly to the case when, driving a car, people may not find a parking lot. In this work, we make predictions about the statuses of the stations of the public bicycle service in Barcelona. We show that it is feasible to correctly predict nearly half of the times when the stations are either completely full of bikes or completely empty, up to 2 days before they actually happen. That is, users might avoid stations at times when they could not return a bicycle that they have rented before, or when they would not find a bike to rent. To achieve that, we apply the Random Forest algorithm to classify the status of the stations and improve the lifetime of the models using publicly available data, such as information about the weather forecast. Finally, we expect that the results of the predictions can be used to improve the quality of the service and make it more reliable for the users.

Ocular Health (OH) Flight Day 10 (FD10): Yui and Lindgren, with Kelly as Crew Medical Officer (CMO), performed Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to measure retinal thickness, volume, and retinal nerve fiber layer. At the end of the crew day, again with Kelly’s assistance, Yui and Lindgren used the fundoscope to obtain images of the retinal surface. The Ocular Health protocol calls for a systematic gathering of physiological data to characterize the risk of microgravity-induced visual impairment/intracranial pressure in ISS crewmembers. Researchers believe that the measurement of visual, vascular and central nervous system changes over the course of this experiment and during the subsequent post-flight recovery will assist in the development of countermeasures, clinical monitoring strategies, and clinical practice guidelines.   Binary Colloidal Alloy Test (BCAT)-Low Gravity Phase Kinetics Platform (KP):  During the scheduled image transfer time, Kelly discovered that the BCAT camera had a dead battery.  He attempted a manual transfer from the camera’s memory card but received an error.  Ground specialists believe that a bubble is in the Field of View of the camera, and may require re-running the sample.  Teams are discussing the forward plan for BCAT.   Human Research Program (HRP) Operations: Kelly and Kornienko are performing their week of sleep logging.  Within fifteen minutes of wakeup, the crew answers questions from the SleepLog application on the Station Support Computer (SSC).  Kelly also completed his FD132 Fine Motor Skills, and is scheduled for a Habitability Walk-through video #3 and Observation #8. The Sleep ISS-12 experiment monitors ambient light exposure and crew member activity, and collects subjective evaluations of sleep and alertness, to examine the effects of space flight and ambient light exposure on sleep during a year-long mission on the International Space Station (ISS). In the Fine Motor Skills experiment crew members perform a series of interactive tasks on a touchscreen tablet. The investigation is the first fine motor skills study to measure long-term microgravity exposure, different phases of microgravity adaptation, and sensorimotor recovery after returning to Earth gravity. The goal of Fine Motor Skills is to answer how fine motor performance in microgravity trend/vary over the duration of a six-month and year-long space mission; how fine motor performance on orbit compare with that of a closely matched participant on Earth; and how performance trend/vary before and after gravitational transitions, including the periods of early flight adaptation, and very early/near immediate post-flight periods. Habitability assesses the relationship between crew members and their environment in order to better prepare for future long-duration spaceflights to destinations, such as Near Earth Asteroids (NEA) and Mars. X ray Echoes from Circinus X 1

Circinus X-1 is an X-ray binary star known for its erratic variability. In the bizarre Circinus X-1 system, a dense neutron star, the collapsed remnant of a supernova explosion, orbits with a more ordinary stellar companion. Observations of the X-ray binary in months following an intense X-ray flare from the source in 2013 progressively revealed striking concentric rings - bright X-ray light echoes from four intervening clouds of interstellar dust. In this X-ray/optical composite, the swaths of Chandra Observatory X-ray image data showing partial outlines of the rings are in false colors. On the Linear Belief Compression of POMDPs: A re-examination of current methods. (arXiv:1508.00986v1 [cs.AI])

Belief compression improves the tractability of large-scale partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs) by finding projections from high-dimensional belief space onto low-dimensional approximations, where solving to obtain action selection policies requires fewer computations. This paper develops a unified theoretical framework to analyse three existing linear belief compression approaches, including value-directed compression and two non-negative matrix factorisation (NMF) based algorithms. The results indicate that all the three known belief compression methods have their own critical deficiencies. Therefore, projective NMF belief compression is proposed (P-NMF), aiming to overcome the drawbacks of the existing techniques. The performance of the proposed algorithm is examined on four POMDP problems of reasonably large scale, in comparison with existing techniques. Additionally, the competitiveness of belief compression is compared empirically to a state-of-the-art heuristic search based POMDP solver and their relative merits in solving large-scale POMDPs are investigated.

Presently, a very large number of public and private data sets are available around the local governments. In most cases, they are not semantically interoperable and a huge human effort is needed to create integrated ontologies and knowledge base for smart city. Smart City ontology is not yet standardized, and a lot of research work is needed to identify models that can easily support the data reconciliation, the management of the complexity and reasoning. In this paper, a system for data ingestion and reconciliation smart cities related aspects as road graph, services available on the roads, traffic sensors etc., is proposed. The system allows managing a big volume of data coming from a variety of sources considering both static and dynamic data. These data are mapped to smart-city ontology and stored into an RDF-Store where they are available for applications via SPARQL queries to provide new services to the users. The paper presents the process adopted to produce the ontology and the knowledge base and the mechanisms adopted for the verification, reconciliation and validation. Some examples about the possible usage of the coherent knowledge base produced are also offered and are accessible from the RDF-Store.

A different perspective on a scale for pairwise comparisons. (arXiv:1508.01191v1 [cs.AI])

One of the major challenges for collective intelligence is inconsistency, which is unavoidable whenever subjective assessments are involved. Pairwise comparisons allow one to represent such subjective assessments and to process them by analyzing, quantifying and identifying the inconsistencies.

We propose using smaller scales for pairwise comparisons and provide mathematical and practical justifications for this change. Our postulate's aim is to initiate a paradigm shift in the search for a better scale construction for pairwise comparisons. Beyond pairwise comparisons, the results presented may be relevant to other methods using subjective scales.

Mining for Causal Relationships: A Data-Driven Study of the Islamic State. (arXiv:1508.01192v1 [cs.CY])

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) is a dominant insurgent group operating in Iraq and Syria that rose to prominence when it took over Mosul in June, 2014. In this paper, we present a data-driven approach to analyzing this group using a dataset consisting of 2200 incidents of military activity surrounding ISIS and the forces that oppose it (including Iraqi, Syrian, and the American-led coalition). We combine ideas from logic programming and causal reasoning to mine for association rules for which we present evidence of causality. We present relationships that link ISIS vehicle-bourne improvised explosive device (VBIED) activity in Syria with military operations in Iraq, coalition air strikes, and ISIS IED activity, as well as rules that may serve as indicators of spikes in indirect fire, suicide attacks, and arrests.

Ocular Health (OH) Flight Day 10 (FD10): Yui and Lindgren, with Kelly as the Crew Medical Officer (CMO), performed vision tests, tonometry, blood pressure measurement, and answered a vision questionnaire.  The Ocular Health protocol calls for a systematic gathering of physiological data to characterize the risk of microgravity-induced visual impairment/intracranial pressure in ISS crewmembers. Researchers believe that the measurement of visual, vascular and central nervous system changes over the course of this experiment and during the subsequent post-flight recovery will assist in the development of countermeasures, clinical monitoring strategies, and clinical practice guidelines.   Defining the Relationship Between Biomarkers of Oxidative and Inflammatory Stress and the Risk for Atherosclerosis in Astronauts During and After Long-duration Spaceflight (Cardio Ox): Lindgren reviewed reference material, configured the ultrasound for his FD15 session and collected blood pressure and ultrasound measurements of the carotid and brachial arteries with Yui acting as CMO.  The objective of Cardio Ox is to determine whether biological markers of oxidative and inflammatory stress are elevated during and after space flight and whether this results in an increased, long-term risk of atherosclerosis in astronauts. Twelve crewmembers will provide blood and urine samples to assess biomarkers before launch, 15 and 60 days after launch, 15 days before returning to Earth, and within days after landing. Ultrasound scans will be obtained at the same time points as well as through 5 years after landing as an indicator of cardiovascular health.   Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) 3011 Return To Service (RTS): EMU 3011 RTS activities continued today. Kelly verified successful installation of the Fan Pump Separator (FPS) when he performed visual water leakage inspection, structural gas leakage test at the maximum operating suit pressure, and a long-duration leak check. Virgo Cluster Galaxies

Well over a thousand galaxies are known members of the Virgo Cluster, the closest large cluster of galaxies to our own local group. In fact, the galaxy cluster is difficult to appreciate all at once because it covers such a large area on the sky. This careful wide-field mosaic of telescopic images clearly records the central region of the Virgo Cluster through faint foreground dust clouds lingering above the plane of our own Milky Way galaxy. The cluster's dominant giant elliptical galaxy M87, is just below and to the left of the frame center. To the right of M87 is a string of galaxies known as Markarian's Chain. A closer examination of the image will reveal many Virgo cluster member galaxies as small fuzzy patches. Sliding your cursor over the image will label the larger galaxies using NGC catalog designations. Galaxies are also shown with Messier catalog numbers, including M84, M86, and prominent colorful spirals M88, M90, and M91. On average, Virgo Cluster galaxies are measured to be about 48 million light-years away. Rainfall Accumulation Across the United States (1/1/2015 - 7/16/2015)

NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission launched on Feb. 27, 2014. It is a collaboration between NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and acts as the standard to unify precipitation measurements from a network of 12 satellites. The result is NASA's Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM data product, called IMERG, which combines data from all 12 satellites into a single, seamless map. The map covers more of the globe than any previous precipitation data set, allowing scientists to see how rain and snow storms move around nearly the entire planet. As scientists work to understand all the elements of Earth's climate and weather systems, and how they could change in the future, GPM provides a major step forward in providing the scientific community comprehensive and consistent measurements of precipitation.

Global Terrestrial Water Storage Anomaly

GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) maps variations in Earth's gravity field. GRACE consists of two identical spacecraft that fly about 220 kilometers (137 miles) apart in a polar orbit 500 kilometers (310 miles) above Earth. GRACE maps Earth's gravity field by making accurate measurements of the distance between the two satellites, using GPS and a microwave ranging system. It is providing scientists from all over the world with an efficient and cost-effective way to map Earth's gravity field with unprecedented accuracy. The results from this mission are yielding crucial information about the distribution and flow of mass within Earth and its surroundings. The gravity variations studied by GRACE can be used to determine ground water storage on land masses. By comparing current data to an average over time, scientists can generate an anomaly map to see where ground water storage has been depleted or increased. GRACE is a joint partnership between the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States and Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Luft und Raumfahrt (DLR) in Germany. Atmospheric River Reaching California

Atmospheric rivers are narrow corridors or filaments of concentrated moisture in the atmosphere that account for most of the pole-ward transport of water vapor around the globe. Atmospheric rivers consist of narrow bands of enhanced water vapor transport, typically along the boundaries between large areas of divergent surface air flow, including some frontal zones in association with extratropical cyclones that form over the oceans. Atmospheric rivers play a central role in the golbal water cycle. They are the major cause of extreme precipitation events (which may couse severe flooding) in many mid-latitude, westerly coastal regions of the world, including the west coast of North America, western Europe, and the west coast of North Africa. This project illustrates an atmospheric river that developed between 9th and 12th of Dec. 2014, streching across Hawaii to California based on water vapor data and IMERG precipitation data. The animations show the IMERG precipitation data over the white, cloud-like water vapor. Heavy precipitation is shown in shades of red while lighter rains are shown in greens (see the color bar below). In the animation above, the time step (the period) between two consecutive frames represents a quarter of an hour. MMS Spacecraft Transition to Tetrahedral Flying Formation

In the latter half of July 2015, the four satellites of the Magnetosphere Multi-scale (MMS) mission move into their tetrahedral formation flying configuration as part of the checkout for the science phase of the mission. During this phase, the four spacecraft will have their orbits adjusted to eventually bring them to within about ten kilometers of each other .

Adaptivity and Computation-Statistics Tradeoffs for Kernel and Distance based High Dimensional Two Sample Testing. (arXiv:1508.00655v1 [math.ST])

Nonparametric two sample testing is a decision theoretic problem that involves identifying differences between two random variables without making parametric assumptions about their underlying distributions. We refer to the most common settings as mean difference alternatives (MDA), for testing differences only in first moments, and general difference alternatives (GDA), which is about testing for any difference in distributions. A large number of test statistics have been proposed for both these settings. This paper connects three classes of statistics - high dimensional variants of Hotelling's t-test, statistics based on Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces, and energy statistics based on pairwise distances. We ask the question: how much statistical power do popular kernel and distance based tests for GDA have when the unknown distributions differ in their means, compared to specialized tests for MDA?

We formally characterize the power of popular tests for GDA like the Maximum Mean Discrepancy with the Gaussian kernel (gMMD) and bandwidth-dependent variants of the Energy Distance with the Euclidean norm (eED) in the high-dimensional MDA regime. Some practically important properties include (a) eED and gMMD have asymptotically equal power; furthermore they enjoy a free lunch because, while they are additionally consistent for GDA, they also have the same power as specialized high-dimensional t-test variants for MDA. All these tests are asymptotically optimal (including matching constants) under MDA for spherical covariances, according to simple lower bounds, (b) The power of gMMD is independent of the kernel bandwidth, as long as it is larger than the choice made by the median heuristic, (c) There is a clear and smooth computation-statistics tradeoff for linear-time, subquadratic-time and quadratic-time versions of these tests, with more computation resulting in higher power.

A factor-graph representation of quantum-mechanical probabilities (involving any number of measurements) is proposed. Unlike standard statistical models, the proposed representation uses auxiliary variables (state variables) that are not random variables. All joint probability distributions are marginals of some complex-valued function q, and it is demonstrated how the basic concepts of quantum mechanics relate to factorizations and marginals of q.

Predicting respiratory motion for real-time tumour tracking in radiotherapy. (arXiv:1508.00749v1 [cs.AI])

Purpose. Radiation therapy is a local treatment aimed at cells in and around a tumor. The goal of this study is to develop an algorithmic solution for predicting the position of a target in 3D in real time, aiming for the short fixed calibration time for each patient at the beginning of the procedure. Accurate predictions of lung tumor motion are expected to improve the precision of radiation treatment by controlling the position of a couch or a beam in order to compensate for respiratory motion during radiation treatment.

Methods. For developing the algorithmic solution, data mining techniques are used. A model form from the family of exponential smoothing is assumed, and the model parameters are fitted by minimizing the absolute disposition error, and the fluctuations of the prediction signal (jitter). The predictive performance is evaluated retrospectively on clinical datasets capturing different behavior (being quiet, talking, laughing), and validated in real-time on a prototype system with respiratory motion imitation.

Results. An algorithmic solution for respiratory motion prediction (called ExSmi) is designed. ExSmi achieves good accuracy of prediction (error $4-9$ mm/s) with acceptable jitter values (5-7 mm/s), as tested on out-of-sample data. The datasets, the code for algorithms and the experiments are openly available for research purposes on a dedicated website.

Conclusions. The developed algorithmic solution performs well to be prototyped and deployed in applications of radiotherapy.

Identifying Avatar Aliases in Starcraft 2. (arXiv:1508.00801v1 [cs.AI])

In electronic sports, cyberathletes conceal their online training using different avatars (virtual identities), allowing them not being recognized by the opponents they may face in future competitions. In this article, we propose a method to tackle this avatar aliases identification problem. Our method trains a classifier on behavioural data and processes the confusion matrix to output label pairs which concentrate confusion. We experimented with Starcraft 2 and report our first results.

Qualitative Decision Methods for Multi-Attribute Decision Making. (arXiv:1508.00879v1 [cs.AI])

The fundamental problem underlying all multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) problems is that of dominance between any two alternatives: "Given two alternatives A and B, each described by a set criteria, is A preferred to B with respect to a set of decision maker (DM) preferences over the criteria?". Depending on the application in which MCDA is performed, the alternatives may represent strategies and policies for business, potential locations for setting up new facilities, designs of buildings, etc. The general objective of MCDA is to enable the DM to order all alternatives in order of the stated preferences, and choose the ones that are best, i.e., optimal with respect to the preferences over the criteria. This article presents and summarizes a recently developed MCDA framework that orders the set of alternatives when the relative importance preferences are incomplete, imprecise, or qualitative in nature.

Problem Theory. (arXiv:1412.1044v5 [cs.AI] UPDATED)

The Turing machine, as it was presented by Turing himself, models the calculations done by a person. This means that we can compute whatever any Turing machine can compute, and therefore we are Turing complete. The question addressed here is why, Why are we Turing complete? Being Turing complete also means that somehow our brain implements the function that a universal Turing machine implements. The point is that evolution achieved Turing completeness, and then the explanation should be evolutionary, but our explanation is mathematical. The trick is to introduce a mathematical theory of problems, under the basic assumption that solving more problems provides more survival opportunities. So we build a problem theory by fusing set and computing theories. Then we construct a series of resolvers, where each resolver is defined by its computing capacity, that exhibits the following property: all problems solved by a resolver are also solved by the next resolver in the series if certain condition is satisfied. The last of the conditions is to be Turing complete. This series defines a resolvers hierarchy that could be seen as a framework for the evolution of cognition. Then the answer to our question would be: to solve most problems. By the way, the problem theory defines adaptation, perception, and learning, and it shows that there are just three ways to resolve any problem: routine, trial, and analogy. And, most importantly, this theory demonstrates how problems can be used to found mathematics and computing on biology.

Two Timescale Stochastic Approximation with Controlled Markov noise and Off-policy temporal difference learning. (arXiv:1503.09105v4 [math.DS] UPDATED)

We present for the first time an asymptotic convergence analysis of two-timescale stochastic approximation driven by controlled Markov noise. In particular, both the faster and slower recursions have non-additive Markov noise components in addition to martingale difference noise. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of our framework by relating it to limiting differential inclusions in both time-scales that are defined in terms of the invariant probability measures associated with the controlled Markov processes. Finally, we show how to solve the off-policy convergence problem for temporal difference learning with linear function approximation using our results.

IMAX Camera Change-out and Cleaning: Lindgren swapped the IMAX C500 Digital Cinema camera body with an on-orbit spare, delivered on SpaceX-6.  He then cleaned debris from the 1DC Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera sensor. Both cameras were reassembled to operational configuration for resumption of imagery collection. The ISS provides an unparalleled perspective of how both natural and human forces shape planet Earth. IMAX Documentary Film (IMAX) aims to produce a three dimensional movie called A Perfect Planet, which uses ISS-based video and images to illustrate these impacts for audiences of all ages. IMAX also showcases NASA’s exploration efforts and highlights the ISS as a platform for scientific research and a stepping stone to deep space exploration.   Human Research Program (HRP) Operations:  Today’s HRP operations included the continuation of Flight Day-7 (FD7) Salivary Marker for Yui (blood and saliva collections) and FD7 Microbiome for Lindgren (saliva collections).  Both Yui and Lindgren also have their FD13 Cognition sessions.  For cognition, the crew powered on the Human Research Facility (HRF) laptop, launched the Cognition application, and completed the Cognition test which includes pre-test questions and an array of cognitive tests with performance feedback. The Microbiome experiment investigates the impact of space travel on both the human immune system and an individual’s microbiome (the collection of microbes that live in and on the human body at any given time). Salivary Markers samples will be used to measure markers of latent viral reactivation (a global indicator of immune impairment and infection risk) in conjunction with salivary antimicrobial proteins and immune cell functional assays. This research study will help identify if there are any risks of an adverse health event in crewmembers due to an impaired immune system. Individualized Real-Time Neurocognitive Assessment Toolkit for Space Flight Fatigue (Cognition) is a battery of tests that measure how spaceflight-related physical changes, such as microgravity and lack of sleep, can affect cognitive performance. Cognition includes ten brief computerized tests that cover a wide range of cognitive functions, and provides immediate feedback on current and past test results. The software allows for real-time measurement of cognitive performance while in space.   Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) 3011 Return To Service (RTS): The crew performed loop scrubs of EMUs 3005 and 3011 and collected cooling loop water samples. A series of checkout activities for EMU 3011 to verify performance of the new Fan/Pump/Separator (FPS) that was installed last week was also completed. Initial startup of the new FPS was nominal with no issues. The crew also completed visual water leakage inspections, a structural gas leakage test at the maximum operating suit pressure, and a long-duration leak check. EMU 3011 Return to Service activities are scheduled to continue tomorrow.   HII Transfer Vehicle (HTV)-5 Preparations: Yui assembled HTV Hardware Comm and Panel (HCP) in the Japanese Experiment Module Pressurized Module (JPM).
